If its connected to the wifi network that iOS is on, it will work. I have done that too. All you need is the IP address of the computer in question. In fact I have a second wifi router configured in bridge mode for the old computers without wifi. It wirelessly connects to the main wifi router, so anything plugged into the second router is on the same network. Because the main wifi router is downstairs and these computers are upstairs. Running cables to upstairs is impractical.
