More on the 'Mac-like' Ub Budgie. Unlike the style of most distro/s seen on DistroWatch, Ubuntu's 'flavors' of various desktop environments are separated into their own spot on the DW list. Typically when some development is wanting to be another Ub flavor, there is an 'official' process that they must satisfactorily complete to become a new flavor. Budgie first became a new Ub flavor back in '16. The background of Budgie is also 'different'. Typically, a linux distro 'springs from' some patriarch family such as Debian, RedHat, Slackware, or Arch; but sometime the dev/ arises 'independently' or, it arises from one of the partriarchs, but pursues its own dev course sufficiently to be considered to have evolved 'independent' of the parent. The distro Solus came from a previously independent 'de novo' distro Evolve. From the outset, the Solus dev also chose to have a 'fresh' DE based on the tools from Gnome, namely the gtk toolkit. The Solus dev also got interest and help on the desktop from other dev/s from Arch, Manjaro, opensuse, and then Ubuntu, who were interested in using the desktop in their own distro/s. Currently the wp article lists 10 different distro/s who provide a Budgie DE as an option. Typically some DE is considered the 'flagship' of a distro; Ub's flagship is Gnome (now) as is Debian and RedHat. The flagship of the Solus distro is Budgie, which Solus also provides a MATE DE option. Some people are 'crazy about' Budgie, incl the Ubuntu Budgie as mentioned at the x704 bbs entry.. -- Mike Easter
