Britain was neutral in the Franco-Prussian war. They were quite happy to 
see France knocked down a notch but were thrilled by German unification. 
Britain always tried to play European countries against each other. Come 
to think of it, they haven't stopped playing if the rumor that Boris 
derailed a Ukrainian-Russian treaty is true. 

The US is Britain on steroids without the diplomatic skills.
