Applications requiring temporary high voltages, particularly those feeding 'spark gaps', are basically protected by the load. Physical separation of primary and secondary, reinforced by layered core insulation (automatic doubling) and filled gaps are basic techniques of achieving higher proof withstand voltage stress capabilities.
