CalTrans recommended spacing is 25 to 50 >ft. Oops. Using Google Earth Pro and the ruler tool, the light poles in the camera view along the center divider are almost exactly 200 ft apart. 1 mph = 1.47 ft/sec t = time (seconds) 200 ft in t seconds = 200 / t / 1.47 = 136 / t mph For a sanity check, I times how long cars took to go between the light posts at about 3 seconds. 200 / 3 / 1.47 = 136 / 3 = 45.3 mph Yeay, that seems about right. To be able to go 100 mph, a car would need to travel between light posts in 1.3 seconds. Watch the video and imagine a car going at that speed. Not possible, especially in traffic. Incidentally, Tom often complains about the poor conditions of California roads. Yet, with a road capable of supporting 100 mph driving, there doesn't seem to be a problem. -- Jeff Liebermann jeffl@cruzio.com PO Box 272 http://www.LearnByDestroying.com Ben Lomond CA 95005-0272 Skype: JeffLiebermann AE6KS 831-336-2558
