That probably goes all the way back to 2d flat turn based RPGs for me. But for real time games it gives a tiny bit more field of view, and I get to see all my gear and whatnot. I know some FPP games have had mods to add it in, but really you have to have a model with movements. Apparently OW only has an idle model which you can see when you don't touch the controls for a minute.
