On my ancient Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1" (SM-T530) with Android 5.0.2, i.e. even older than yours, Settings says it can "Back up application data, Wi-Fi passwords and other settings to Google servers". (Settings -> 'GENERAL' tab -> 'Backup and reset')
