It was announced late last year.

Correct. It'll take several years for the difference to come since it was
only announced recently. The seven years also isn't for all models whereas
Apple's support is for all phones and in the real world is often 6-7 years
anyway.

Don't listen to "Marion". Apple doesn't need to support multiple OS
versions as the most up-to-date version is compatible with all supported
iphones.
