I remember when I was recovering from surgery for a burst appendix and hitting
that button for a dose of morphine when the pain got to be too much. I
suddenly understood why people got addicted to drugs. It was also why I mostly
gritted through the pain as much as I could and avoided using the pain-killer
as much a possible.
