You probably are unable to - But if that is the case, you can just 
physically take the box down to the nearest Cox store, and trade it in 
for a new cable/DVR box.

If you are willing to take the pain, you may want to call Cox up and 
find out what your options are - they may allow you to mail the box in 
for a new one, or if you're really lucky they may send a tech out to 
change out boxes, but they're likely to charge you for the home visit in 
that case.
