Thanks Jesse, I hope next year is more peaceful! All posting from my gateway goes through eternal-september. I don't even have an account on your server, I'm just reading from it anonymously. I don't have many users so far, but I have tried to code the XPAT search so that it will not cause excessive load. It starts by querying a block of 10000 article numbers, then keeps doubling the block size until it finds at least a screenful (30) of results. So a query for something silly like '*' will just return the first 10000 and then stop. The code for this is at https://chiselapp.com/user/cmacleod/repository/newsgrouper/file?name=scripts/newsgetter&ci=tip - search for 'xpat'. -- Colin Macleod ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ https://cmacleod.me.uk I see you're one of those boring people who empty the crumb tray *before* the toaster catches fire :-)
