A Russian volunteer expressed frustration, claiming they were
"lied to about their contracts," which were initially
promised to last only one year

He didn't fully believe that automatic renewal would apply to him
since he wasn't mobilised, but when he wasn't discharged as expected
in May 2024, he lost both faith and hope. 

According to him, officials act as if they were the ones misled,
rather than the volunteers. This highlights the persistent challenges
the Russian military faces in recruiting and retaining new personnel.
