MSVC is a common informal moniker. It seems, after it was adapted by godbolt.org it became even more common than before. cl.exe is the name of executive for very long time. I don't know how long exactly, but would guess that more than 30 years. Versions of compiler that were officially approved to build kernel modules (supplied with DDK) were historically not the same versions that were sold for user mode application development as part Visual Studio package or of Windows SDK package. Not that they were radically different, just frozen at different points in time. Nowadays, it seems, the versions are more in sync.
