I don't know, but would think that what causes it is an approuch to equilibrium. But at 1550 degrees equilibrium is still pretty far away (50-70 degrees away? I would think that when reaction is slowed down by factor of more than 10K then an exact rate is of lesser interest and the aithmetic with precision of one octave should be o.k. since precision of the model is worse than that anyway.
