The handful of Youtubers I saw all tried to answer the question positively. And they supported the conclusion that John was a great guitarist (and songwriter) by demonstrating John's parts on songs like "Norweigian Wood," "All My Loving," "Ticket To Ride" and other songs from this period. Oh -- one person played "I Am the Walrus," but included the orchestral stuff, which was actually written by George Martin. I agree that the earlier parts were great guitar parts and songs. The problem is, John didn't maintain his abilities as a rhythm guitarist and songwriter. I'd add that his post-"eating LSD like candy" guitar parts were often feeble. The exceptions are some of the White Album songs, where he used a version of the picking technique he had learned from Donovan Leitch in India.
