  in modern culture i'd say that perhaps many of the intelligent
have decided that the noise of popular culture and media is not
worth the bother.

  in my own family most of them have no concerns about learning
or science and believe anything DJT says.

  when Covid started off none of them even asked me a single
question about what they were being told by their uninformed
friends and they made significant decisions based upon that
ignorance.

  it has not changed since then.

  i do vote and i voted against the nutjob, it was not a 
resounding vote in favor of the candidate put forth by the
more progressive side but it was the choice i was given.
i sure hope for the next few elections they can find some
more moderate and coherent candidates with actual plans
other than just saying "we won't be like DJT".
