Here (Thailand) then usual way a kid gets a bicycle is either the parents just give him one or he nags the parents until they do and in nearly all cases they set the bike in the driveway and say something like, "Well, here's your bike." I live in a rather extensive housing project with a lot of kids and what I see is the kids out in the street fumbling around until they teach themselves to ride. No parental assistance. Which is just how I and my running mates learned. Get a bicycle for Christmas and just got on and rode. No parental assistance. -- Cheers, John B.
