I think they're for people who get a kick out of the stats and such.
Arguably, its a more intellectual take on the game since you aren't
just clicking buttons to make a goal, but actually thinking about
strategy and what not. It's basically a spreadsheet game. Which I
/should/ appreciate but never got into. Anyway, the genre has a loyal
fanbase so theyere are obviously a lot of people who are into that
sort of thing, and I'm fine with that. 

But, like you, I don't think I'll ever play them myself.
