In fact, you are confused because you are answering to someone who doesn't
understand the purpose of links and who doesn't know how to use it. Links
is great, it's not its fault if LP/DG/FR/NV/whatever doesn't understand
its purpose. You should know that by now.

The purpose of links is not to be launched in graphical mode. Its
purpose is to be used in a terminal. And does its job pretty well. There
are some cases where you have no graphical mode available and you need
to browse the Internet. At this time, you are happy to be able to use
links.
