As Dave said, "victory gardens" and backyard chickens/rabbits were popular from WWII era and back. Then again, large apartment complexes weren't a thing then, either. It's funny how many cities now ban backyard chickens, but during the Great War, lots of propaganda was released to encourage back yard animals.
