Trouble is that people get too cocky driving their 4WD vehicle, and 
forget that it's just as slick on ice as any FWD or RWD vehicle is. 
Personally, I find that my small cars usually do better in the snow than 
an SUV.  They tend to "glide on top" of the snow.

Either way, you have to know your limitations.  I've seen a number of 
large vehicles wrecked off the side of winter roads, but I can't say 
that I've ever been stuck off the road due to snow myself (knock on wood).
