RDR2 is an exceptional game (even if not entirely to my liking). It
should be noted, however, that the award this year went to the
/original/ "Red Dead Redemption" and not its sequel. RDR1 only
recently got a port to PC.

I'd have liked more categories too. A few more of the typical
genre-based awards, for instance (best strategy, best adventure, best
first-person, etc.) as well as those you mentioned.

Still, the results aren't too surprising, since the Steam Awards are
(reputedly) voted on by Steam users, and the biggest and best-known
games are obviously going to have a huge voting advantage over the
tinier titles that only a few dozen people have ever heard of. Valve
does stack the deck a bit by pre-populating the poll. Nominally you
can select /any/ game in your Steam library as a candidate, but as any
pollster (or teacher) can tell you: people will almost always go with
the offered options rather than selecting their own.
