It turns out I don't trust either class. Doctors are a set of professionals just like any other---full of dilettantes. (Gell-Mann amnesia effect might be a useful keyword here.) When I hear the average professional write or talk in my area, it's often full of nonsense. I don't think it's different in any other area.
