This wasn't discovered and treated properly until 2012 after 4 car wrecks luckily without any injuries" I had a 1970 Land Rover Series IIa 88" wheelbase. The electrical components were made by Lucas and gave me considerable difficulties. I ended up donating it to a school which included a large cardboard box full of accumulated, condensers, rotors, distributors, ignition switches, dashboard switches, starter solenoids, voltage regulators, flasher, lighting components, etc. These were about 50% dead parts and 50% spares (mostly used). The starter and generator survived because they were replaced by non-Lucas clones. The wiper motors and dimmer switch were Lucas and survived for reasons unknown. Prior to 1970, Lucas electrical components were quite good. Around about 1970, something went wrong and the quality went downhill. My guess(tm) is there were redesigns that cut too many corners to save money. <https://www.learnbydestroying.com/jeffl/pics/home/land_rover.jpg> <https://www.learnbydestroying.com/jeffl/pics/home/land_rover1.jpg> <https://www.learnbydestroying.com/jeffl/pics/home/land_rover3.jpg> "It's amazing how many parts can fall off a Land Rover and it will still get you home".
