when i lived in town nearby DSL was very nice and i was glad
to pay a few extra to have a new phone line run for my apartment
so i could avoid having a long wire running across the floor.
it cost me all of $45 to have the phone company do that.

moving back out to the country was a rather harsh adjustement
as i had to go back to a dialup line for computer access for
some years until i got the radio network receiver setup. it is
not as reliable as the DSL but it works.

i was really spoiled when i lived and worked on campus at
the university and they had an excellent local network even
way back then - up until i got the DSL in town i'd never had
as fast or reliable of a connection.
