I've been poking around newsreader groups.  Found another post you can 
buy a block of usenet data, someone mentioned you could probably go 
years and years on a $2 5gb block at blocknews.  If you really think 
you're going to use a lot they have higher tiers $9 for 100gb for 
instance, good until you use it up.

Retention is slightly over 10 years, and they're increasing it backwards 
as time goes on.

I'm not sure if they have the spam filters set up though, like 
eternal-september.  That doesn't look like it's currently an an issue, 
but who knows if it will become one again, or if you're looking for old 
posts.

The other two free ones I mentioned in another reply do have spam 
filters. i2pn2.org and news.solani.org
