Made data recorders with Arduino's ... a double 'shield' arrangement. The first was a proto board I glued all the sensor electronics to, the second was a LiPo/solar charger board (use Seeed, not any others !). There was an option for a third shield, LCD display, but actually you set everything over serial so it was never necessary but I did make one. Yep, had to change usenet again, my old provider is getting more and more flakey. I suspect there's ONE bald old hunched guy (looks more familiar in the mirror these days) there who knows how to make the server work ... and once he retires, or is found dead in his cubicle after a month .... Anyway, while PIs are very capable, might not cover EVERY possibility with just one 'hat'. IMHO hats should have a row of pass-thru GPIO connectors on top, just in case.
