In this case it's some checkboard patterns outside of U+0020 to U+007F
"ASCII" range used by some legacy system.

U+2427, U+2428, and U+2429. 

U+2427 I know was used as a delete cursor on Apple IIe systems, I don't
know about the others, but probably similar stories.
