While I'm all for old hardware that still serves, in these cases, well ....... probably all COBOL too. The prob with that old COBOL is that most was writ by VERY good narrow-tie guys and works perfectly. As such any tweak these days represents high anxiety - the chance of blowing up What Just Works. Trust Gen-Z doing re-writes ??? > Could this be a magnificent opportunity for GNU/Linux and FOSS? > > Naw. That ugly dumb-fuck wants to use Java. > > What? No Rust? I already hear the beatniks moaning. Ummmmmmm ... I'd rather use Rust than fuckin' JAVA :-) Still not sure why you hate Rust over all else. It is an 'unnecessary' lang - not THAT diff from 'C' - but it's not evil. Hey, maybe Musk will compromise ... how about ERLANG ? Oh wait, it's govt ... so BrainFuck instead ! :-) > Heck. Not everyone likes it, but 'works' means 'WORKS'. Yea yea, some things you can do in half the code using 'C', but 'C' is not nearly as 'readable' and can hide MANY mistakes. Even M$ can't get all the bugs out ... find THIS weeks list of potential buffer overflow attacks ........ > Who cares if it takes 20 years for the cost-of-living increase > to process. > > Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
