My point was that from the referenced article the husband and the "bad
guys" were close together - in a fight - and thus a weapon that sprays
many projectiles is probably not the thing to use if one wants to
avoid shooting one's husband.

On the other hand if the use it to prevent an individual or group of
individual from entering the house or are in your house and not in
close proximity to you or others in your family then certainly a
shotgun is a good choice,
