I get trying to protect the girl but if she even suspected (and she
clearly knew the facts of the case) the girl committed murder and it
wasn't self defense then there was no excuse for protecting the girl.

For me it made perfect sense as she was the only one that knew about
the connection between the strange toys. So when she saw that those
toys were connected with each murder it made sense for Angie to start
thinking maybe the girl was involved. Then she found the pills in the
girls room and it came together. Though clearly Angie was still hoping
there was some sort of mistake involved.

Yeah, it was a strong scene. Though my first thought was any sort of
suit was going to fail when the fact that the daughter was a serial
killer comes out. Never mind that the victims were pedophiles. That
fact (that she was a serial killer) would trump anything Angie did in
terms of the mother's law suit. Though it clearly put Will in a tough
situation as it seems likely what Angie did was going to come out even
if he had chosen to try and protect Angie.

I don't think that was what was being considered then. It was the
murder of that first guy by the daughter and the subsequent coverup.
The mother wasn't thinking of the other men's deaths as that would
clearly trump any sort of law suit from her.

Yeah, she seemed way too well adjusted to have turned to murder as a
way of compensating. If they wanted to go that route I would have
expected there to be more signs of her having trouble dealing with the
rape and subsequent murder. While it was clear it was on her mind
there was no sign of her even considering revenge against others.

Agreed. When they started writing her out that seemed to be a natural
next step. Much like they did over on FBI MOST WANTED with the female
FBI agent and her wife going through the same sort of messy divorce
and fight over the kids with the one pushing for the divorce also
planning to move cities.
