I never really cared for the Starfox games. Animal mascots never were my thing. I just don't go in for fuzzy critters masquerading as humans. And Starfox itself never really impressed me. It may have been Hot Stuff in console land, but it felt old-hat to a member of the PC Master Race. It wasn't doing anything I hadn't seen before, in better games like "X-Wing" or "Wing Commander" or even Dynamix's "Stellar 7". Still, the original "Starfox" --and the later Nintendo64 sequel, imaginatively named "Starfox 64"-- got a lot of attention amongst hoi polloi, so I had to give it a try. It's a fun game (after you ignore the fuzzy critters) even if it is derivative of better computer games. I can understand why people look back at it fondly, even if I can't, myself, share that excitement. If you happen to be one of those, rejoice in knowing that there is now a free port of the game (called "Starship") that natively runs on PC (as opposed to through emulation). It's all new code and brings a bunch of QOL features, including mouse/keyboard controls and wide-screen support. What it does NOT include is any copyrighted assets. You'll have to provide those yourself. If you're a fan of the game, you probably have the cartridge somewhere (working out how to get that contents of that cartridge onto your PC is left up to you). Elsewise, you /could/ maybe just possibly find the ROM contents available Archived on the web somewhere. If you were the sort to do that sort of thing. Just sayin'.
