Not that I recall. It was a little rough in the beginning but is now 
another chromium based browser with excellent ad blocking and privacy.

Any controversy involved Brendan Eich. He was a co-founder, CTO, and CEO 
of Mozilla before being forced out after donating to California 
Proposition 8 which opposed same sex marriage.

He also created JavaScript which some may see as a strike against him.
