I hope the abuses don't sour people on the whole technology. Used correctly models can be used on edge devices like a phone. This is a step forward. Now when you say the wake word like 'Hey Alexa', the rest of the transaction is handled by the Amazon, Google, or whatever server. Doing the complete process on the local device saves the internet traffic and also keeps your data where it belongs. Unfortunately, M$ is taking the opposite approach, using local AI to potentially slurp up all your data. I'd taken several MIT courses on machine learning and part of the lectures that was stressed frequently was the ethical aspects.
