Of course that wasn't what he was doing at all as I'm sure you are
aware. The reason for the quick backtrack was to avoid people in the
media decrying his use of the word. Which was too late as I've already
seen people bemoaning his use of the word  "illegal", even if he
quickly corrected his use to "undocumented."
