Beethoven 4, recorded 1987
in Philips box 442 073-2
Concertgebouw Orchestra
Conductor: Bernard Haitink

Verdict: very good but no cigar

+ great orchestral playing
+ fine interpretation
+ lively, expressive, exciting; definitely not boring
+ excellent sound
+ all in all very good

And yet
- the exuberance, while not suppresssed, is slightly restrained, safely
within the limits of good taste, as it were, where I think the music
should sound as if almost going out of control
