I don't deep fry foods but made an exception and had the top part of a double boiler filled with oil to create my own. Where I grew up was heavily Catholic. On Fridays all the restaurants had some sort of fish specials. Ted's Fish Fry claim to fame was its fish dries, strange to say. https://www.mealeo.com/restaurants/albany/teds-fish-fry-western-ave I don't know what species they use now but back then i think it was haddock or halibut to get the long strips. The sauce was 'chili sauce' which was sort of a spicy sweet tomato relish. We didn't know jack about Mexican cuisine. There were a couple of copycats but Ted's was the real thing. Wish I had one now. There wasn't any ocean front property in Troy but it was only about 150 miles to the ocean so there was plenty of fresh seafood.
