I really hate defending Microsoft but when they do a release how are they supposed to test every possible combination of hardware and software? Linux has gotten better but it was problematic on laptops and there were/ are lists of Linux friendly laptops. The Windows world assumes it's going to work. Apple has a much easier task since they know exactly what the software is going to run on.
