For my Trance, I have lots of choices I could buy a performance (cheap budget option) or choice of widths and durability of the tyre and how much grip vs rolling to tailor the tyres for my preferred performance characteristics. Hence my old commute bike is fine being 26inch though even in that space new tyres tend not to come out in 26inch, but on the whole it’s a non issue. The MTB though and for MTBer tyres matter hugely having a limited choice and in some cases i suspect older designs I’d and other would absolutely care about, and very much is an issue. Hence the two folks who you know do MTB are unsurprisingly in agreement it’s almost as if we know what we’re talking about ;-) Roger Merriman
