German is actually a language and does not address ethnic origins. Old-German was widely spoken in Western Europe in ancient times. It is an ancestor language to many others, like e.g. Dutch or English. The is actually an author, who claims, that the Mayan language was also derived from old-German (don't know, whether or not that's true). TH
