America wouldn't prevent the province from enriching itself. I have a campaign button from the Reform Party of Alberta that says "It's Your Country, Not Theirs". That was the Reform Party of the '90s, not the current one. Ottawa did quite a bit to piss off Alberta on really important issues. Calgary Export at the time was a local beer. Their blimp was inadvertently captured on TV as it floated over a ballgame. They were fined for advertising beer on TV. I think it was also Calgary Ex that used bottles shaped like little kegs and were told they had to conform to the Uniform Beer Bottle Act of 1989 or whatever the BS was.
