| According to the Open Doors 2024 report, one-third of over 300,000
| Indian students in the US were enrolled in the OPT programme. The
| OPT programme provides practical experience for both academic and
| vocational students. There were 331,602 Indian students studying in
| the US in the 2023-2024 academic year, and as per the report, Indian
| students benefit the most from the OPT programme, with 97,556
| participants in 2023-2024, a 41% increase over the previous academic
| year.The OTP programme's potential removal could significantly limit
| pathways to long-term employment in the US since the only
| alternative would be an H-1B visa, which is highly competitive and
| capped annually. Moreover, the H-1B route, too, is facing increasing
| scrutiny.
