I never entirely warmed up to the franchise to begin with, and Bioware's performance over the past few years hasn't inspired confidence. Still, surely Bioware --and owner Electronic Arts-- have learned their lesson and are pulling out all the stops to ensure the next game is something players want, and avoiding all attempts to over-monetize the game in order to drain their customers of every last penny, right? Right? Introducing "Dragon Age: The Veilguard" Rook's Coffer edition. Filled with all sorts of swag, including a map, a flask, various playing cards, a fake 22' dagger and god knows what other junk. Everything a die-hard "Dragon Age" fan could want, for the low-low cost of $150 USD. Except, you know, the actual game.* Oh, EA. Oh, Bioware. To be fair, you can get the game for much cheaper (the base version will sell for $60 USD on launch). Everything in the 'Rook's Coffer edition' is just fluff unnecessary to play the game. It's not even the first time EA has done something like this (see "Battlefield 1" for similar shenanigans, or pretty much any Ubisoft game). Still, Bioware's on shaky ground with fans these days and you'd expect maybe, just maybe, EA would have wanted to put their best foot forward in an attempt to regain some trust from players and not look like greedy, corporate fucktards. But I guess the lure of MOAR MONAY is hard to resist for some. And sure, I know some people like the knick-knacks and are quite happy to pay for the chance to add some more tat to their bookshelf. Still, not even including the game? That's just feels pointlessly greedy. So I'll say this much. I was already on the fence about getting this game, but this sort of nonsense just soured me on the idea. Presumably I'll one day get the game (I mean, I can only resist the call of The Number for so long) but it'll be a long time before I do. Just because this sort of attitude annoys me that much. Good job, EA and Bioware. * https://www.gamesradar.com/games/dragon-age/dragon-age-the-veilguard-collectors-edition-is-dollar150-and-it-doesnt-even-come-with-the-game/
