The author was using software called "Scientific Workplace." I decided to check it out. SW is just another cheap GUI wrapper around the open-source LaTeX plus other stuff. However, the commercial company, after 40 years, is now bankrupt and out of business. All of its users are now in the lurch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_WorkPlace Who would ever entrust their work to a commercial enterprise that is always in danger of going bust? Even Adobe Photoshop could one day soon collapse into nothing. For scientific markup, if you need a GUI, just use Lyx, TeXmacs, or WxMaxima. FOSS projects can also become abandoned but with a large enough user base and the available source code longevity is much more assured. -- Systemd: solving all the problems that you never knew you had.
