Update: Two British papers, the Daily Mail and Daily Star,
carried the story.

Oddly enough, there has been no followup since Dec 30 in which the
authorities released any identifying information about the victims.
But a side story developed. Equipment was stolen from the
base station of the volunteer rescue group on the day of the
search. In checking out that story, I found stories about rescue
equipment being stolen from fire and rescue stations in
--a British team, Cleveland Mountain Rescue (Feb 18)
--a British Columbia Parks team during Nov 29 search (Dec 23)
--a Nova Scotia RCMP location (Mar 25)
--an Edmonton area fire station (Feb 23)
--and 25 other apparently distinct similar incidents going back
as far as 2015 in the US, UK, NZ and Canada.
