The term is too strong. And it is counterproductive. We should not say "insane", but "biased". The theory of relativity is a true theory, in the sense that there is a relativity of space and time. But the way it is taught is a real disaster. It got off to a good start in the French years (Langevin, Poincaré) but everything descended into horror when the Germans got involved (Einstein, Minkowski). They completely diverted the theory towards furious madness, rather than taking it further. R.H.
