I have problems looking up anything that old.  The only service that
goes that far back is Google.  However, Google's Usenet archive ended
on Feb 22, 2024.  Since then, nobody seems to be rebuilding the
indexes when they become scrambled.  Lots of things no longer work
correctly.  The other Usenet archives are still functional, but don't
retain articles that far back.

Using NovaBBS, I found 59 articles, by various people, with the words
"poison gas" in them.  The earliest article was on May 5, 2021 (4
years ago):

Unfortunately, I couldn't determine the earliest article posted by
Tom.  The newsreader will only display 1,000 articles by Tom, which
only go back to Nov 26, 2023.

I find it interesting that the "severe concussion" occurred just
before Tom's DUI arrest.
