Ptolemy had the Sun rotating about the Earth (mostly, as I understand
it, because Aristotle did), but at the start of /Almagest/ there is a
section explaining why the Earth is not flat.

The basic idea is that, if it /were/ flat, every star [1] visible on a
particular night would be visible from every point on the Earth. But
this is not the case.

[1] If necessary, it can be conceded that some polar stars may be
hidden by the thickness of the flat earth except near the poles. This
is more about the way stars appear/disappear as you move towards and
beyond the Equator.
