   "Feature creep" ... you keep having to figure out how
   to jam new stuff into the middle of the old stuff until
   you just have a total MESS. That's when you're supposed
   to totally re-do, or abandon, but Perl was already too
   well 'established' so they were stuck with what/how '
   came before.
