Je lis dans un ouvrage spécialisé : « Poisoning is when a person is
exposed to a substance that can damage their health or endanger their
life. »
_a_ person, singulier, _their_ pluriel.

Peut-on considérer cette phrase comme correcte ?

Je comprends que l'anglais est handicapé dans ce cas, car il est délicat
de reprendre person par his ou her. Pas possible non plus de reprendre
par its. Peut-être l'anglais devrait-il s'inspirer du français « iel »
et créer un nouveau pronom possessif du genre « hiers, hiesr, heisr ou
heirs » ?
